At the end of last semester my English class was divided into groups and assigned create a video on a topic from one of the books we read over the course. My group, four girls (including myself) that are passionate about feminism, chose Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and our video was centered around double standards for women in the book (which takes place in Iran during the Iranian Revolution) compared to double standards we see today in the United States. Double Standards in clothing, speech, and sex are all discussed, and we tried to show how they are truly damaging to women and young girls everywhere. We recommend Persepolis to anyone who hasn’t read it; it is an amazing book and we were proud we could do our final project on something that we feel so strongly about! Hope you enjoy!
